Meet Our Veterinarians
Ned Allen Jr, DVM
Dr. Allen has been a part of Jones animal hospital since moving to Bristol in 1987 from his first veterinary job in Chesapeake, Virginia. He graduated from Auburn University in 1984 after completing a preceptorship in small animal medicine and surgery at Stage Road Animal Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, but has special interest in all types of surgery and small mammals. He enjoys interacting with all of the clients who come in attached to patients and has many second and third generation clients. When not at work he can be found running with his standard poodle, Kitty, or on the water somewhere sailing, kayaking, or swimming. He lives with his wife Karen, pets (dogs and cats) in Bristol, Tennessee and truly believes that “Bristol is a good place to live”.
Dorothy Kirby, DVM
Dr. Kirby is a 1985 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in animal science as well as her DVM. She has lived and worked in Abingdon and Bristol since graduation. Her family includes her husband, Gary, two adult sons, and elderly Poodle (Colt), two kitties (Lincoln and Mary Todd), and a part time Mini-Aussie (Ash). She enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling and cooking.
Dee Dee Bodenhorst, DVM
Dr. Bodenhorst, known to many as Dr. B, grew up in Abingdon, Virginia. She attended Virginia Tech for both undergraduate and veterinary school, graduating in 2003. Following veterinary school, she completed a small animal medicine and surgery internship at Noah’s Animal Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. She joined Jones animal hospital in 2006. She has a special interest in abdominal ultrasonography. In her free time, she enjoys watching her boys play soccer, jogging with Baxter on the Creeper trail, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. She currently resides in Abingdon with her husband Jeoff, two sons Max & Alex, a Sheep-a-doodle named Baxter and Felix the cat..
Tammy Sluss, DVM
Dr. Sluss graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 after studying eight years at East Tennessee State University. Immediately following graduation, she started practicing at Jones Animal Hospital. She enjoys traveling, yardwork, orchids, reading, college basketball games, and being a servant to three chihuahua–mixed masters.
